Neutrogena is voluntarily recalling a specific batch of its Makeup Remover Ultra-Soft Cleansing Towelettes due to potential bacterial contamination. This contamination poses a risk of causing serious infections, like sepsis, especially in vulnerable individuals.
Why Were the Wipes Recalled?
The recall was initiated after the wipes tested positive for a bacterium called Pluralibacter gergoviae. An internal investigation by Neutrogena’s parent company, Kenvue, found out. This bacterium can be concerning because it’s known to be resistant to some common preservatives found in beauty products.
The FDA has classified this as a Class II risk level, which means exposure to the product could potentially cause temporary or medically reversible adverse health consequences. While the risk is considered low for healthy people, this bacterium can lead to severe infections (like respiratory issues, eye infections, or even sepsis) in individuals with weakened immune systems or chronic health conditions.

The recall is limited to one specific product and lot number:
- Product: Neutrogena Makeup Remover Ultra-Soft Cleansing Towelettes (50-count 25-pack bundles).
- Affected Lot Number: 1835U6325A (This code is typically printed on the back of the package).
- Distribution States: Texas, South Carolina, Georgia, and Florida.
These wipes were distributed on September 19, 2025. If you have this product, you should stop using it immediately and dispose of it.
