Recent leaks give us a clear picture of what to expect from Samsung’s next big foldable phones, likely launching in late July 2026.

Interestingly, the reports show that Samsung is planning to release two different versions this time: a main model Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8 or the Fold 8 Ultra and a new, different-shaped model called the Fold 8 Wide.

This model keeps the familiar tall shape of previous Samsung folds but brings a few major internal upgrades that users have wanted for years.

  • Better Battery & Faster Charging: The battery is getting a big jump to 5,000 mAh (up from 4,400 mAh on older models), which means it should last noticeably longer. It will also finally support faster 45W wired charging.
  • Less Visible Screen Crease: Samsung is reportedly using a new screen structure and laser technology to make the middle crease much less visible and smoother to the touch.
  • The Screens: It will feature a 6.5-inch outer screen and a large 8-inch inner folding screen.
  • Upgraded Cameras: The main back camera stays at a sharp 200 megapixels, but the ultra-wide lens is getting upgraded from 12 megapixels to 50 megapixels for clearer wide shots.
  • Processor: It will run on Qualcomm’s upcoming processor (the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5), with up to 16GB of RAM.

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8 Wide

This is a brand-new style of phone for Samsung. Instead of being tall and narrow when closed, it is designed to look more like a traditional wide passport or a small, square tablet.

  • A Wider Shape: The inner screen is 7.6 inches with a boxier shape. This makes it much better for watching videos or running two apps side-by-side without them feeling squished.
  • Thinner and Lighter: It is expected to be incredibly thin (around 4.3mm when opened) and light, weighing just 200 grams.
  • Processor: Expected to run on the latest Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 processor.
  • The Trade-offs: To make it this thin and light, leaks say it will drop the zoom camera entirely (offering just two 50-megapixel back cameras) and will have a slightly smaller 4,800 mAh battery. It also won’t support the S Pen stylus.

Software and Release Details

  • Software: Both phones will launch with Android 17 and Samsung’s One UI 9 software. They will also include Google’s Gemini artificial intelligence tools built directly into the system.
  • Support: Samsung is expected to promise 7 years of software and security updates for these devices.
  • Expected Launch: The rumored release date is around July 22, 2026.
